Introduction
The main objective of this program is to strengthen the research capacity of the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua, UNAN-Managua, mainly in areas as assessment of environmental impact of pollutants and mitigation of environmental damage and risks.
We want to create a research team competent of carrying out multidisciplinary research in environmental issues. Therefore research training for the participants, aiming at a PhD degree, with an intermediate MSc or licentiate degree, is an essential part of the programme.
Two research centres at UNAN-Managua, the Geoscientific Research Centre, CIGEO, and the Nicaragua Aquatic Resources Research Center, CIRA, are the main participating organizations in Nicaragua. In addition, the Faculty of Medicine at UNAN-Managua will train staff members in environmental medicine.
